The
final flight left Doha just after 7.00 in the morning, stopped at Johannesburg
to offload passengers and arrived in Cape Town in the early evening. Qatar Airways has fairly decent leg
room, much better than BA for example, but I spent the first part of the
journey behind a large sleeping male student who inclined his seat back as far
as possible. Now, I don’t tip my seat
on long haul flights. I think it’s rude.
It really interferes with the comfort of
the person sitting behind. So I was delighted at Johannesburg when the majority of
passengers disembarked and it looked as though I was getting a row of three
seats to myself and that, by moving from the window to the middle one for a while,
I could actually tip my seat back, even if only for a short doze. So when
a grinning Japanese man approached saying, “Please, please” before clambering
over me to take photographs from the
window seat, I found myself saying, “Oh, for goodness sake!”
loudly. And then thought I was getting like my mother,
who never hesitated to vent any
discomfort on everyone and anyone around her.
It’s called sharing the pain, I think.
